Lakeway is the most technically demanding area we work. Lots are steep, houses are built into the slope, and the drop below a tree is frequently a cliff, a roof or the lake. Very little here can be dropped, so almost everything is rigged, and we will tell you plainly when a tree on your lot is a full rigging job rather than a routine one.
It is also the area where wildfire risk is most serious. Continuous Ashe juniper running up a slope to a house is close to a textbook fuel path, and the topography accelerates fire uphill. Fuel reduction and defensible space work is genuinely the most valuable service we provide in Lakeway.
Oak wilt is well established through this corridor. Combined with thin soil over limestone and repeated drought, the mature live oaks that give Lakeway its character are under real pressure, and early intervention makes a substantial difference.
What is different about Lakeway trees
- Steep-lot rigging
- Very few Lakeway trees can be felled or dropped. Nearly all work is rigged and lowered on rope, which takes considerably longer. It is also the only safe way to work these slopes.
- Wildfire is the priority
- Continuous cedar on a slope below a house is a direct fuel path, and fire moves uphill fast. Defensible space work here is the highest-value service we offer.
- Established oak wilt
- This corridor has long-running infection centres. Preventative propiconazole injection of high-value live oaks near a known centre is frequently worthwhile.
- View and slope stability
- Lake view clearing has to be balanced against slope stability. Removing everything holding a steep bank together creates an erosion problem that is far more expensive than the view is worth.

Yes, and it is a substantial part of what we do out here. Steep terrain means almost everything is rigged and lowered rather than dropped, and material often has to be hauled uphill by hand to reach a chipper. It takes longer than the equivalent flat-lot job, which is reflected in the estimate, but it is the only safe way to do it.
Start with the first five feet around the structure, which should carry no continuous vegetation at all. Out to thirty feet, break up continuous canopy, remove ladder fuels that let a ground fire climb into the crowns, and clear dead material. Beyond that, thin the cedar so fire cannot run unbroken up the slope. We survey and quote this per property.
Selectively, and with real care. Crown raising and thinning frequently opens a view without removing anything, and it keeps the slope stabilised. Clear-cutting a steep bank for a view removes the root network holding the soil, and the erosion that follows is a far bigger problem than the view was ever worth.
